Chapter 192: How Are We Supposed to Act This Kissing Scene?
"Mm, just here to take a look," Seth Quinn replied flatly to Liam Keane.
"In that case, President Quinn, please have a seat over there. The first scene is about to start," Director Liam Keane said, pointing toward the monitors.
"No need. We’ll just sit here." It was closer to the set and offered a clearer view.
"Alright, then." Director Liam Keane didn’t insist. He quickly had a staff member bring over a few chairs for the four of them. "President Quinn, President Sterling, President Jennings, I’ll get back to work, if you’ll excuse me."
After River Sterling sat down, he scanned the crowd, taking the opportunity to wink and make eyes at the surrounding actresses, who were ecstatic about their arrival. Then, he leaned close to Seth Quinn’s ear and whispered, "Hey, how come I don’t see your wife?"
Seth Quinn shot him a cold look. "What, is that the only reason you came today?"
"...Of course not! I just figured since I’m here, I should at least say hello to your wife, right? You two have been married for a while now, and as your brother, I haven’t even been properly introduced."
"That won’t be necessary." His refusal was cold and firm.
"Alright, alright, fine. Your women are all precious treasures, happy now?"
After saying that, he couldn’t help but mutter resentfully, "Hmph. If you’re so possessive, you should lock your precious treasures away in a gilded cage. Why is one of you parading his around town all day, while the other puts his right in front of a camera for the whole world to watch?"
"River Sterling, will you shut your mouth? No one will think you’re mute if you just keep quiet!" Seth Quinn’s icy glare swept over him again, finally silencing him.
’Does he think I don’t want to hide her away? But she would have to agree to that. I’m giving her complete freedom as it is, and she still spends all day trying to avoid me. If I were to lock her up in a gilded cage, I might be able to keep her person, but her heart would just flee even farther away. What choice do I have? My hands are tied, too!’
...
Faye Jennings didn’t have any scenes in the morning, so she had been in her room catching up on sleep. By the time her assistant messaged her and she rushed frantically to the set, the first scene was almost over.
From a distance, she saw Seth Quinn and the three others sitting in a row. She reached up to smooth out her clothes and walked over without breaking her stride.
"President Quinn, President Sterling, President Jennings, you’re all here?" Her tone and posture were as elegant and poised as she could manage.
Seth Quinn glanced at her briefly. "Mm."
"Faye, I didn’t think you had any scenes this morning, yet you’re up so early. Not many stars of your caliber are as diligent as you are."
River Sterling had a casual way of speaking, as was his habit. He was always friendly with the actresses signed to his company, calling them by their first names. This was a stark contrast to Seth Quinn, who was cold and distant with everyone, always addressing them formally as "Miss Lastname."
"Thank you for the compliment, President Sterling. I’m used to getting up early, so I’m almost always up at this time, even when I don’t have scenes. We wrapped a night shoot pretty late yesterday, so I actually consider this sleeping in."
Faye Jennings explained with poise and a calm tone, but her gaze lingered on Seth Quinn, unwilling to look away.
Seth Quinn, however, shot a sharp look at River Sterling and said pointedly, "It seems you’re very well-informed about this film’s shooting schedule."
River Sterling looked a little guilty, chuckling awkwardly. "Of course I am. Why else would I have rushed over this early to wait for Faye’s afternoon scene? And aren’t you here to supervise the shoot, too?"
River Sterling’s words were deliberately vague. To anyone not in the know, it would sound like all three presidents had come so early in the morning specifically to support Faye Jennings.
Coupled with the fact that Seth Quinn didn’t refute this, their suspicions were all but confirmed. Before long, a rumor that "President Quinn rushed over early this morning to visit Faye Jennings and personally watch her afternoon shoot" had spread throughout the set.
"Poppy, didn’t you want to get an autograph from your idol? Look, Faye’s right here. What are you waiting for?"
Linden Jennings noticed that Poppy Vance, who just moments ago had been excitedly chattering about getting extra autographs to sell to her classmates, was now completely silent and unresponsive.
He thought she was just star-struck from seeing her idol, so he reminded her in a soft voice.
With that, he introduced Poppy Vance to Faye. "Faye, this is my girlfriend, Poppy Vance."
Linden Jennings was never shy about letting people know that Poppy Vance was his girlfriend.
"Oh, right. I was just so star-struck I couldn’t react, Linden." Poppy Vance scratched her head, giving Faye Jennings a rather forced smile. "Faye Jennings, my classmates are huge fans of yours. They’re dying to get your autograph. Do you think you could give me a bunch? I’d love to make their wishes come true."
