Chapter 414 - 286: I Won’t Let You Go and Leave an Heir
Chapter 414 - 286: I Won’t Let You Go and Leave an Heir
"No, don’t!" Ling Hong let out a low growl, his expression turning to one of torment. He spun around, reaching out to pull her back. He couldn’t bear to watch her throw herself into the arms of another male.
But Xi grabbed him, seeing he was on the verge of losing control.
Shaking his head, he said softly, "This is Ah Jin’s own choice..."
Meanwhile, Ze Sheng watched the female walk toward him step by step, a hint of astonishment appearing on his face.
A greater sense of alarm and suspicion intertwined in his heart, causing him to unconsciously hold his breath, his fingers clenching slightly inside his sleeves.
Until she was standing before him and smiled faintly.
"Ze Sheng."
It was a casual address, like one between friends—no, more like one between passing strangers. The way she said his name was so flat that for a moment, the man was in a daze.
He had long grown accustomed to her bounding into his arms, filled with endless longing and joy as she cried—"Ze Sheng!"
He hummed a low affirmation and gave a slight laugh. "So, you’re back. It’s good timing. The others have been waiting for you for ten years."
"But someone else has been waiting for me for nearly a hundred years, haven’t they?"
He looked up in astonishment, his lips parting. He stared at her faintly smiling face, but couldn’t say a single word.
"If it weren’t for you, I would never have returned to this world. But when it comes to the two of us, there are some other things I want to know."
"...What do you want to know?" Ze Sheng guessed she had recovered her previous memories. He paused for a long moment before raising his eyes to hers and saying slowly, "Then come with me. I’ll tell you everything you want to know."
An Jin couldn’t fathom his thoughts, so she simply nodded. "Alright." Having grown up together, she knew that Ze Sheng was the type of person who buried all his thoughts in the deepest corner of his heart. He liked the feeling of being in control of everything.
And as for things that escaped his control...
He never made a point of keeping them around.
’Like her, at this very moment.’
...
In Unicorn King City, inside a magnificent Stone Castle, Ze Sheng dismissed most of the Beast Servants, leaving only a few guards to stand watch outside the door.
The room was dimly lit.
The door was closed.
An Jin got straight to the point. "I want to know what really happened back then."
Ze Sheng looked at her calm and detached face as she recounted the past event with the indifference of an outsider. A bitter taste filled his heart. ’So I’m the only one left to be tormented day and night by the dual agony of body and soul from all those years ago.’
"Since you’ve already recovered your memories, why are you still asking me?"
She shook her head. "But my memory of that period is a complete blank. I can’t remember anything. I thought you might know."
"And what if I do?"
"Ze Sheng?" She looked at him in surprise, as if she hadn’t expected him to say such a thing.
"What does it matter if you know or if you don’t?" He picked up a glass from the table. It was a barley wine he had purchased from the cities under her command. On a whim back then, he had sent people to procure a large quantity of it, but after actually tasting it, he found it far too strong. It was bitter and harsh, so with his preference for milder flavors, he rarely touched it again.
But whenever his mind was in turmoil, a glass of this so-called wine would allow him to sleep without being disturbed by worldly troubles.
He drained the glass in one gulp.
An Jin watched all of this unfold. She saw him finish the first glass, then pour a second and drain it as well, followed by a third, a fourth...
"That’s enough!" An Jin stepped forward, snatched the glass from his hand, brought it to her own lips, and then grabbed the bottle from the table. "Stop drinking," she said sadly. "You don’t even like the taste..."
The man chuckled, his face flushed red and his breath growing hot. "Don’t like it?" The mist in his eyes grew thicker. "No, who says I don’t like it? You really have changed. You don’t even know what I like and dislike anymore..."
An Jin could see he was drunk and wanted to help him to bed to rest.
However, emboldened by the alcohol, the man tackled her onto the bed. He suppressed the feelings that were about to burst forth, his hands gripping her slender, soft waist as he leaned down and pressed closer. "Y-You... in the end, you still chose them. You don’t want me, is that it? Right. You’re not Wamiya anymore. Even with those memories, you’re not the her you once were..."
"You’ve changed after all. You’re completely different from back then. You’re no longer the Wamiya whose eyes and heart were filled with nothing but Ze Sheng..."
The man’s usually gentle and warm eyes were now filled with a dark haze. He felt his head spinning, yet his tone was vicious, as if suppressing a great rage.
"Then what was the point of everything I’ve done?"
He lowered his head and left a bite mark on her lips, his voice hazy and indistinct, as if shrouded in mist. "Wamiya, I can’t accept all my efforts coming to nothing, only to end up with absolutely nothing..."
An Jin felt his assault moving downward, his actions growing more and more uncontrollable. She hurriedly stopped him. "That’s enough. Stop."
She frowned. "If you really don’t want to tell me, then I’ll stop asking. I’m leaving right now, and I won’t pursue the past anymore."
"Leave?" He lowered his head, his hand reaching up to stroke her face. The burning heat from his slightly rough fingertips spread like a flame. The drunken light in the man’s eyes had lost its usual cold composure and self-control, replaced by a hint of aggression and lust. "Why would you think I’d let you leave?"
"I won’t let you leave. I absolutely won’t!"
’If I let her go, I’ll truly be left with nothing.’
He refused to believe he would end up with nothing.
’At least let me have her,’ he thought. With that, he deepened the next kiss, his fingers pushing the female’s clothes down past her legs.
Just as he was about to take the final step, a crisp sound rang out. His reddened face snapped to the side, and the movements of his hands came to a sudden halt.
He stared at her, stunned. Much of the lust and drunkenness in his eyes faded, replaced by a deeper anger and pain, so intense that even the whites of his eyes turned red.
’Does she dislike me that much?’
’We’re clearly fated partners, destined to be together and produce the purest-blooded offspring.’
’Just as I thought. As her [An Jin] memories return, my importance in her heart will only shrink and shrink... until I’m surpassed by other males and finally fade away completely.’
An Jin stared blankly at her own hand, as if she hadn’t expected what had just happened either. She had been frightened by Ze Sheng’s behavior and had acted instinctively...
"Good... good..." He actually laughed, saying the word "good" several times. His expression, however, was dark to the extreme, like the calm before he lost control completely. "Fine. I can let you go. But you will leave me a child, Wamiya. I refuse to accept ending up with nothing."
’Since her heart is no longer with me, I won’t pursue it any longer. In the little time I have left, I just want my own heir.’
’I’m running out of time.’
...
「Early one morning, a few days later」
An Jin woke up groggily in bed and found the spot beside her empty.
She got dressed, got out of bed, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to look down. She discovered that all the Beastman guards around the castle had been withdrawn.
The meaning was clear: he was determined to let her leave.
She lowered her gaze and sighed softly. Her body slid weakly down the wall, and her hand came to rest on her chest—
where there had once been an empty void, another presence now resided.
Soul blood.
He had returned it to her after all.
