Chapter 201: Fainted in Anger
Resentment System: "Host, your actions have severely violated the regulations of the System Bureau. I have never encountered someone so malicious in my entire existence. This system has decided to unbind from you. You are on your own now."
Whitney Valentine shouted in a panic, "You can’t leave! Who said you could unbind?"
Her only answer was a mechanical countdown: "Unbinding... 10, 9... 2, 1."
The moment the Resentment System tore itself away, Whitney Valentine was so overwhelmed by pain and panic that she passed out on the spot.
A little after four the next morning, the brother-sister pair rushed to the airport to board a helicopter. This episode’s filming location was quite remote, so they had to catch an early flight. The official shoot would only begin once they arrived.
"Bro, you really don’t need to come with me. It’s only for three days, and we’ll basically be live-streaming 24/7. Nothing unexpected will happen." ’Just dropping me off at the airport would have been fine.’
"I know. You just focus on filming. Just treat me as your assistant. Anyway, I’m on vacation and don’t have much to do. I’ll just treat it as a little getaway."
Seeing that she really couldn’t persuade him to leave, Riley simply gave up. As a result, when she appeared in the departure lounge, the other guests all gave her strange looks.
Roxanne Fulton grabbed Riley’s arm and whispered, though her eyes kept drifting toward Warren Valentine, "Girl, you’re really something else. Spill it, where did you find this gorgeous guy?"
Riley pinched the soft skin at her waist. "What are you talking about? This is my brother."
"Your brother? Your *real* brother?"
Riley nodded.
Roxanne’s curiosity was instantly piqued. Riley actually had a real brother?!
They sat together, and Roxanne peppered Riley with questions until she finally understood: Riley had only recently been reunited with her brother.
Once all the guests had arrived, they quickly boarded the helicopter. After a flight of nearly five hours, they reached a small island, and the six guests were airdropped onto its deserted shores.
Once everyone had landed, Director Warren appeared with a wide smile, announced the official start of this episode’s filming, and then introduced this episode’s two special guests.
"Let’s give a huge welcome to our Triple Crown Best Actor, Samuel Hughes, and Best Actress, Felix Sherman!"
The pair greeted the livestream audience, though their main purpose was, of course, to promote their upcoming movie.
Riley was genuinely stunned!
’Those two are both so tight-lipped. To think they were coming on the same show and neither said a word about it beforehand.’
The viewers in the livestream chat exploded with excitement. "This episode is gonna be epic! They actually got Best Actor Hughes!"
"OMG! I thought Samuel Hughes rarely did variety shows! Even when promoting his work, he only makes an occasional appearance. Why would he agree to do an adventure show?"
"Grandma, you have to see this! Your favorite Best Actor is finally making a public appearance!"
"I’m going to round up the troops! Wherever Best Actor Hughes shows up, The Hughes Forces can’t be far behind."
"Best Actress Sherman is getting more and more beautiful. This is her first time on a variety show since her comeback."
"Support! Support! I’ll definitely support them! The movie comes out on the 15th, right? I’m definitely going to see it."
Many of the two stars’ fans went to their fan groups to rally people. Needless to say, this episode’s viewership numbers were going to explode again!
The guests applauded.
Then, Director Warren began explaining the rules for this segment. "For this episode, the guests must survive on the island for seventy-two hours. It is now 9:55 AM on Wednesday, and the end time is 10:00 AM on Saturday.
We will be confiscating all the food and cell phones you brought with you. The production team will issue tasks from time to time, which you can complete to earn supplies. Of course, you can also choose not to do the tasks. We won’t force you."
Next, all eight guests’ suitcases were opened for inspection. The staff was incredibly thorough, especially with Riley’s suitcase. Anything edible was confiscated, right down to the spices.
Riley was speechless. ’They even took the spices. How can we possibly get by without doing the tasks the production team gives us?’
Once the staff finished checking the luggage, the guests put on the watch-phones provided by the production team, and the show officially began.
Felix Sherman looked worriedly at her suitcase. "Riley, the previous two episodes definitely weren’t this insane. There’s nothing here. How are we going to survive the next three days?"
Riley helped her with one of the large suitcases. "Don’t worry. Stick with me, and I won’t let you go hungry."
’The island is actually pretty resource-rich. There’s a long row of coconut trees by the shore, and I can see lots of shells on the beach. The island is densely forested, and I spotted a river on the way down from the helicopter. With the ocean, mountains, and fresh water, how could we possibly starve?’
"Then I’ll stick with you for the next three days."
’Who knew what was on this deserted island? Felix Sherman decided she had to cling to Riley for dear life. Her first priority was just to survive these next three days.’
Riley smiled. "The honor is all mine."
Felix Sherman brightened up. "So what should we do next? Should we figure out a place to stay first?"
Just as they were speaking, a mission notification came through: "Construct a shelter. Points will be awarded based on the quality of completion. The individual with the most points after three days will receive a reward of one million yuan."
Felix panicked. "There’s nothing here! How are we supposed to build a shelter?"
Her watch beeped again. She quickly tapped open the message and took a look: Guests can exchange found food with the production team for supplies or points.
Riley gave it a casual glance, then called out to Felix, "In that case, let’s go check out the nearby woods first." ’Thank goodness. We finally don’t have to split into groups for this third episode.’
The other guests had the same idea. This island was quite large. First, they should get the lay of the land and see if they could find something to eat. Even if they didn’t want to eat it themselves, exchanging it for points wasn’t a bad idea.
Finding a habitable cave would be even better.
’Miles Ford knew several of the guests were on good terms with Riley. If they all went into the woods together, all the screen time would go to her. Plus, she’s just a rookie, but she’s become the leader of the whole group. How can that be okay?’
So he quickly piped up, "Why don’t we split up? We can cover more ground that way. If anyone finds anything, we can just contact each other."
After speaking, he even flashed the watch on his wrist. Sucking up to the sponsors was second nature to the celebrity guests.
Felix Sherman and Roxanne Fulton immediately linked their arms with Riley’s, and they both said in unison, "We’re sticking with Riley."
Samuel Hughes said to the others, "In that case, I’ll go with them. It’s not safe for a group of three girls to be on their own."
Victoria Koenig was speechless... ’Why was I a step too slow? But she didn’t have the nerve to brazenly join them now.’
Best Actor King glanced at Miles Ford, whose expression had clearly soured, and said with a chuckle, "Alright then, we’ll take this path on the left and head north. You all be careful."
The two teams quickly split up. The camera crew also split into two groups; one followed Best Actor King’s group, while the other followed Riley’s team down the path to the right.
The island didn’t seem to get many visitors; the grass grew as high as their calves. As they made their way forward, a few seabirds suddenly took flight with a FLUTTER, startling the group.
