Chapter 397: Go
Chapter 397: Go
Warren Ford’s affairs over there naturally do not affect things domestically.
At the nursing home, Landon Ford had already rolled up his sleeves and started cooking for Thea Shaw and Grandpa Ford.
The place where Old Mr. Ford lived had all the necessary amenities, with a space as large as any major apartment outside.
To accommodate the elderly, all the facilities here were the most advanced.
The ingredients were also fully prepared, with fresh produce delivered from all over.
After all, those who can afford to live in such a nursing home surely seek comprehensive enjoyment.
Landon Ford didn’t ask anyone for help; while he was busy, Thea Shaw attempted to lend a hand to show her usefulness — she handed Landon a few scallions.
Landon Ford snorted: "The sun really did rise from the west today."
Thea Shaw blinked her eyes ’purely and innocently’: "What do you mean by that? Don’t I help you when you cook, usually?"
Landon Ford: "If handing me a couple of vegetables you later snacked on counts as helping, then you did help quite a bit."
Thea Shaw: "..."
Feeling slightly embarrassed and realizing she wasn’t much help, she decided to go find Old Mr. Ford.
Old Mr. Ford had just finished a phone call and, full of energy, scolded Warren Ford, then left the room reportedly to find an old friend.
With the bodyguard’s guidance, Thea Shaw found Old Mr. Ford.
He was playing chess with another gentleman from the nursing home.
When Thea Shaw arrived, she heard the man say: "Your grandson brought his wife to visit you, yet here you are not staying with them, why do you have the leisure to come out?"
Old Mr. Ford seemingly complained but was actually boasting: "Ah, my grandson insisted on cooking for me, I can’t stand the smell of the kitchen oil, so I came out first."
Just as he finished speaking, he saw Thea Shaw approaching.
The two elderly men simply smiled when they saw Thea Shaw.
They were playing Go.
This was exactly Thea Shaw’s cup of tea.
The Great National Master excelled at everything, including music, chess, calligraphy, and painting.
In Go, Thea Shaw wasn’t undefeated worldwide, but at least she had never lost.
Seeing the two elderly men play chess was akin to watching kindergarten students do arithmetic.
Grandpa Ford was still alright, his chess skills were just passable; the other elderly man could be called a hopeless player, with every move beyond Thea Shaw’s expectations.
Thea Shaw was initially planning to watch with her hands behind her back, but now she couldn’t hold back any longer and pointed out to the man: "You should play here!"
The elderly man looked at Thea Shaw and laughed: "Hey, young lady, you understand Go?"
Then he played according to Thea Shaw’s suggestion.
And indeed, after a few pointers from her, Grandpa Ford couldn’t defend himself anymore, trapped like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.
Just as Old Mr. Ford was about to triumphantly crush his opponent, he suddenly wasn’t pleased, and he looked at Thea Shaw: "Whose side are you on?"
Thea Shaw only then realized, and chuckling awkwardly, she said: "It was just an impulse, just an impulse!"
Seeing how poorly he was playing, it was best not to blurt out the truth.
Old Mr. Ford didn’t blame her, just laughed: "Looking at you, you’ve been learning Go for quite a few years, haven’t you?"
"That’s true, it has been quite a few."
Since there was still Lauren Blair to cover her back in the countryside, Thea Shaw boasted confidently.
Thea Shaw: "I’ve studied for at least a dozen years."
Actually, it’s been over twenty years.
But thinking about her current age of only twenty, saying more would make it less about talent and more of a horror story.
"No wonder!"
The elderly man she guided suddenly understood: "With just a few moves you made your Grandpa Ford drop his guard, hahaha, we, who just play for fun, can’t compare to you."
